Lucebert

Lucebert, pseudonym of Lubertus Jacobus Swaanswijk (Amsterdam, 15 September 1924 – Alkmaar, 10 May 1994), was a Dutch poet and painter. Known as 'the poet of the CoBrA movement', he took part in the first CoBrA exhibition at the Stedelijk Museum in 1949.

As one of the Vijftigers he radically renewed post-war Dutch poetry; his line 'Alles van waarde is weerloos' ('All things of value are defenceless') was later mounted in neon on a building in Rotterdam. In 1967 he received the P.C. Hooft Award, the foremost Dutch state prize for literature.

From the 1960s onward Lucebert devoted himself more fully to the visual arts, in a figurative-expressionist style. He spent his later years partly in Spain; his work forms part of collections including the Fundación Antonio Pérez in Cuenca.
