Bert Loerakker (born 1948 in Breda) studied from 1965 to 1969 at the Academie voor Beeldende Vorming in Tilburg. Since 1969 he has lived and worked in Helmond. In 2010 he was appointed Knight in the Order of Orange-Nassau for his services as an artist.
As a boy, his father showed him both the abstraction of Mondriaan and the realism of Dick Ket; those two extremes became the pillars of his oeuvre. From the 1990s onwards, his works often consist of two panels: an expressively painted landscape detail next to a taut geometric or monochrome plane. He draws, paints, makes screenprints and monotypes, and stretches his canvas over heavy, crate-like panels.
