Cobbaert
1909, Heverlee (Belgium)–1995 · Kessel-Lo (Belgium)
Jan Cobbaert (Heverlee, 24 June 1909 - 3 October 1995) was a Belgian artist who, besides painting, also drew and worked in printmaking, ceramics, wrought ironwork, woodcut and glass art. He studied at the academies of Leuven and Brussels and won the Prix de Rome in 1937.
His work bears traces of various movements, including the second Latem School and the CoBrA movement. Around 1950 he came into contact with CoBrA, of which, however, he did not want to become a formal member. From 1944 he was a teacher at the Leuven Academy and settled with his family in Kessel-Lo.
