Doucet

Jacques Doucet (Boulogne-sur-Seine, 1924 - Paris, 1994) was a French painter and the only member of French birth within the CoBrA group. He began painting during the Second World War and never received a formal art education; a meeting with the poet Max Jacob in 1941 prompted him to take up the artist's calling.

Together with Asger Jorn and Christian Dotremont, Doucet was among the co-founders of CoBrA (1948). He took part in all the CoBrA exhibitions, from the first at the Stedelijk Museum Amsterdam (1949) to the last in Liège (1951). His painting is characterised by round, soft forms in generous impasto, outlined with thick black contours.
