Jan Cremer is a Dutch writer and visual artist, born on 20 April 1940 in Enschede. He studied at the art academies in Arnhem, The Hague and Paris, specialising in fine-art painting and graphic techniques.
His controversial novel 'Ik Jan Cremer' made him synonymous with provocative rebellion against established morality and embodied the spirit of the 1960s. His literary works and paintings share common themes: a break with traditional aesthetics and cultural conventions.
From 1970 onwards he combined travel with artistic creation. His paintings are particularly known for seascapes and lithographic works, including Dutch landscapes with tulips.
