Jan Cremer

Jan Cremer (20 April 1940, Enschede – 19 June 2024) was a Dutch writer and visual artist. He studied at the art academies in Arnhem, The Hague and Paris, specialising in fine-art painting and graphic techniques.
His controversial novel 'Ik Jan Cremer' made him synonymous with provocative rebellion against established morality and embodied the spirit of the 1960s. His literary works and paintings share common themes: a break with traditional aesthetics and cultural conventions.
From 1970 onwards he combined travel with artistic creation. His paintings are particularly known for seascapes and lithographic works, including Dutch landscapes with tulips. He died on 19 June 2024 at the age of 84.
