1947, Amsterdam · lives and works in Haarlem

Kees Salentijn (born 3 May 1947 in Amsterdam) studied fine-art painting at the Rijksacademie voor Beeldende Kunsten. He was strongly influenced by his teacher O.B. Kat and studied paintings at the Prado in Madrid.

Spain became a lifelong source of inspiration, from coasts and landscapes to the bullfight. His artistic practice encompasses both figurative and abstract-expressionist styles, using diverse materials: pen, brush, pencil, acrylic, gouache and collage.

In the early 1990s he established a studio in Haarlem, the beginning of an intensely productive creative period.
