Robert Terwindt

1940, Groesbeek–2019, Berg en Dal · Berg en Dal

Robert Terwindt (Groesbeek, 6 May 1940 - Berg en Dal, 14 December 2019) was a Dutch painter and graphic artist. From 1957 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg and grew up in an artistic milieu.

Terwindt was cherished for his large, almost grandiose canvases that carry the viewer into a manifold, colourful world: an endless beach, a bustling fish market or an exuberant carnival. His painting moves between figuration and abstraction, worked impasto and wet-in-wet. In 1999 he received the Charlemagne Prize of Nijmegen; in 2000 Museum Het Valkhof devoted a survey to his work.
